Gecko Symposium 2011

Exo Terra was proud to announce the Exo Terra Gecko Symposium, which took place at 7:00 PM on Friday August 19th, 2011 at the Daytona Beach Hilton Hotel. This free event was sponsored by Exo Terra in conjunction with the National Reptile Breeders Expo, which was held at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. The symposium featured talks from some of the world’s foremost gecko experts and published authors.

The schedule included talks from herpetologists and authors Patrick Schönecker, Hans-Peter Berghof, Emmanuel Van Heygen (The Geckos of Madagascar, the Seychelles, Comoros and Mascarene Islands), Derek Dunlop (Australian Leaf-tailed Geckos), Roland Zobel (The Geckos of Australia), Philippe de Vosjoli and Allen Repashy (The Geckos of New Caledonia).

Attendees received an exclusive Exo Terra Gift Bag. The gift bag included a limited edition Exo Terra 2011 Gecko Symposium T-Shirt, as well as other prizes.

The Geckos of Madagascar, the Seychelles, Comoros and Mascarene Islands

  • Patrick Schönecker (GER): published several articles on the subject and also the book "Geckos of Madagascar, the Seychelles, Comoros and Mascarene Islands", and visited Madagascar numerous times.
  • Hans-Peter Berghof (GER): co-author of the book "Taggeckos", former chairman of the IG-Phelsuma and visited Madagascar numerous times.
  • Emmanuel Van Heygen (BE): Exo Terra Manager, specialized in the genus Phelsuma and traveled over 25 times to the region.

The Geckos of Australia

  • Roland Zobel (GER): Exo Terra Manager, Hagen Germany and Gecko Enthusiast for over 45 years. Traveled to Australia several times.
  • Derek Dunlop

The Geckos of New Caledonia

  • Philippe de Vosjoli (USA): renowned author and herpetoculturist. Traveled to New Caledonia several times.
  • Allen Repashy (USA): biggest Caledonian gecko breeder in the world. Traveled to New Caledonia several times.
