Phelsuma Journal

Exo Terra is the official sponsor of 'Phelsuma', the journal of the 'Nature Protection Trust of Seychelles' or NPTS.

The NPTS was established in 1992 as a non-profit-making, non-governmental organisation dedicated to furthering the conservation of nature in the Seychelles islands, through informed scientific research to conserve species by conserving their habitats. Fulfilling its aim of promoting education, study and research in all fields of natural history the NPTS publishes two journals. The annual scientific journal, 'Phelsuma' deals with all aspects of nature within the entire western Indian Ocean and includes reports on all NPTS projects.

The NPTS is a member of IUCN - the World Conservation Union - and is represented on the Species Survival Commission of IUCN.

"The 12th issue of 'Phelsuma' sees a departure from previous issues in two respects. Most noticeably this is the first issue to be published under a new sponsorship with Exo Terra, a brand division of Rolf C. Hagen Inc. (Canada). This enables us to increase our circulation, improve our print quality and start publishing in colour. We hope this new format will set a new standard for the future and are most grateful to Dr. Emmanuel Van Heygen, brand manager of Exo Terra, for taking on the layout and publication."
Ron Gerlach, Chairman of the NPTS

Exo Terra did not only sponsor the journal but also contributed to its contents. Phelsuma vanheygeni, the new gecko species that was discovered by Emmanuel Van Heygen during the Exo Terra expedition 2004, is described in this journal along with the scientific report of the research carried out during this expedition.
